“Tokyo Elements”
概要
これは私にとって初めてのデジタル写真展です。興味があって「pixel」という言葉を日本語で調べてみると、カタカナでは「ピクセル」、そして漢字では「絵素」と書かれ、「絵の要素」、すなわち「picture element」という意味になります。
ピクセルの組み合わせによって写真が生まれるように、これらのイメージ（写素？）を合わせることで、東京というより大きな「ピクチャー」が形づくられていく気がします。そして都市そのもののように、この「イメージ」も時間とピクセルを通して成長し、変化していくのです。

This is my first exhibition of digital photos Curious. I looked up the word “pixel” in Japanese ? in Katakana it’s 「ピクセル」, but the Kanji for it is 「絵素」(eso), literally “picture element”.
Just like how combinations of pixels create a photograph, placing these images（写素？）together a bigger “picture” of Tokyo is formed. Like the city itself, this image will grow and change through time and pixels.

ジョン・サイパル ／ John Sypal
1979年、アメリカ・ネブラスカ州に生まれる。2001年より写真を撮り始め、2004年に来日後は東京のギャラリーで継続的に作品を発表している。2008年からは「Tokyo Camera Style」を通じて、日本の写真文化を世界に紹介している。2010年にはアーティストが運営する東京の「Totem Pole Photo Galley」に参加し、依頼、毎年複数の写真展を開催している。著作には自身の作品集のほか、多数の写真集や展覧会レビューが含まれる。
Born in Nebraska, USA in 1979, he began photographing in 2001. Upon moving to Japan in 2004 he began regularly exhibition in Tokyo galleries. Since 2008, he has shared Japan’s photographic culture with a global audience through Tokyo Camera Style. He joined Tokyo’s artist-run Totem Pole Photo Gallery in 2010. Where he continues to present several photographic exhibitions each year. Publications include books of his own work as well as numerous photobook and exhibition reviews.
